The Best Wireless Headphones Review

Although the Jabra move is a bestseller (cheapest and budget friendly) pair of headphones, Sony Wh1000XM3 still dominates as the best noise cancelling over-ear headphone, while Bose Quietcomfort 35 II still retains its position as the peoples choice for the best wireless headphone with great audio quality.

Jaybird X3s not withstanding is still a good bluetooth in-ear headphone for working out, as Beats makes a comeback with the beats studio 3 wireless headphone with good bass and audio quality, even for mixing and mastering.

Here then is a reviewed list of the best wireless headphones to buy in 2020.

1. Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Headphone

Bose Quietcomfort 35 series II over ear headphone wireless review

Our pick of the best Bluetooth headphone 2020

Before now, Bose headphones has been rated a “best buy headphone” due to the quality of audio it produces.

Bose has been known for producing high quality headphones, and the Bose Quietcomfort 35 series II is no short of that.

Battery Life:20 Hours
Wireless Range:30+ Ft.
aptX Bluetooth:N/A

The Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II is the upgraded version of the QuietComfort 35 Series I.

For most of us, this is not in any way surprising at all, as a matter of fact, we would have called this list trash if the Bose QuietComfort 35 was nowhere in the top three as we all know that when it comes to quality sounds in headphones, Bose is a top brand in the industry.

Bose has finally brought its fantastic noise-cancelling technology to a pair of wireless headphones and it’s done so without any of the traditional drawbacks of wireless headphones.

They sound great, and their battery life is long enough for all but the longest of flights.

The QC 35s are a really powerful set of cans that you can get in the market. They do have a league of their own when it comes to buying them.

But if you’re looking for premium quality sound and a great set of functionalities, you can never really go wrong with Bose headphones as the QC 35 is one of the best wireless headphones for 2020.

While the QC35 headphones were a top contender for our favorite noise-canceling headphones, they ultimately won us over for their extreme comfort.

Starring large, oval ear cups and a headband that are both plumped with padding, even extended listening sessions feel comfortable.

As far as noise-canceling goes, Bose is the gold standard. The QC35 has built microphones inside and outside the ear cups to sense unwanted noise and, using its new digital equalizing system, will balance sound accordingly.

Battery Life and an added feature we love

This wireless pair has a battery life rated at an impressive 20 hours, but Bose has moved away from AAAs to a rechargeable battery mechanism, which makes it impossible to swap in new, standard batteries should yours die in the middle of your listening session.

Thankfully, the QC35 can be used with a wire, so it’s easy to just plug in and continue listening. It’s worth noting that the sound quality is also slightly better when using it as a wired headphone, but it’s still top of its class when it comes to wireless Bluetooth sound.

  • A premium headphone that includes industry-leading noise-cancellation technology
  • Very comfortable
  • Broad and clear sound-stage
  • Long battery life.

  • Design not quiet unique.
  • Not sweat-proof.
  • Non-replaceable battery.

Overall, the Bose QuietComfort 35 Series II wireless headphone is a top contender in every headphone category, especially for overall sound from a bluetooth headphone.

From studio headphones for mixing and mastering to regular over ear headphones for music lovers, this wireless headphone will make your music listening sessions worth while.

2. Sony WH-1000XM3 Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphone

Sony WH1000XM3 wireless Bluetooth headphone

Best wireless noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphone with superb audio and bass

No doubt, the Sony WH-1000XM3 is an over-the-ear wireless Bluetooth headphone with microphone – Hi-Res audio and a very active sound cancellation technology.

Click to compare prices from Amazon US | Amazon UK, CA & AU | Prices are lower when discount is applied (Use the button above).

Battery Life:30 Hours
Noise-Canceling:Very Active
Wireless Range:30+ Ft.
aptX Bluetooth:Yes and Active

For everything else on this list, the Sony 1000X are a great choice and a “best buy” consideration when it involves owning a great piece of headphone.

The practicality of the 1000X from Sony is simply amazing. With a collapsible design, perfect ergonomics, and a 30-Hours battery, you can use these headphones as much as you would a wired pair.

Here is What you Get With These Cans

You get a scintillating sound with tightly controlled bass and dynamic highs. Also present is a top notch active noise-cancellation. Thirty (30) hours of playback.

Although you do not get aptX with these models, (previously written for the Wh100Xm2, which was replaced by the upgraded WH1000XM3, Sony boasts of an advanced audio coding, aptx and aptx HD with their own LDAC to transmit high-resolution (Hi-Res) audio content, even over a Bluetooth connection).

It then becomes crucial to note that it’s a deliberate choice by Sony, since they have included their LDA transmission protocol, which claims to transmit up to three times as much data as conventional Bluetooth.

An Outstanding Feature we all love

One thing we really love about these set of wireless headphones is the three mode tricks most high end bluetooth headphones has.

  • Ambient noise mode.
  • Quick attention mode.
  • LDAC codec.

One is an ambient noise mode that only lets in mid-to-high frequency tones (Like announcements over a loudspeaker) and another being Quick Attention mode that allows you to let in all outside noise without taking off the headphones.

(The last but not the least is perfect when giving a drink order on a plane or speaking to a coworker for a brief moment before diving back into your work.) The last trick Sony has up its sleeve is the LDAC codec.

Whats the use of having a wireless Bluetooth headphone if you will still have to bring out your smartphone to do the controls like pause, play and volume control or skip tracks?

Worthless I’d say, as its much more convenient to have it all controlled relentlessly since you are going wireless.

And yes, that’s exactly what the 1000XM3 offer, with touch sensitive pads that uses various gestures on each ear cup that lets you control your music without needing to reach for your music source.

The difference between the sony MDR1000X and the WH1000X is really not very noticeable, but Sony claims its an upgrade to the already great MDR1000X headphone set.

The WH1000XM3 is our top recommendation for the best wireless headphones with noise-cancelling technology and great quality audio sound production as well as bass, that you can buy.

These headphones are comfortable to wear for an extended periods of time and sounds great overall.

SONY WH1000XM3 Wireless Headphones PROS and CONS

  • Superb Active Noise-cancellation technology.
  • 3 Mode funtion for different levels of music enjoyment.
  • Broad and clear sounding audio.
  • Long battery life.

  • Design not quiet unique.
  • Quiet pricey, but great for audiophiles.
  • Hinges are fragile, requires careful handling.

Sennheiser HD-1 & Sennheiser Momentum premium wireless bluetooth headphones review

The Sennheiser HD-1 and Sennheiser Momentum wireless is our top pick for the best wireless bluetooth headphones of 2020 with active noise cancellation.

Battery Life:22 Hours
Noise-Canceling:Very Active
Wireless Range:30+ Ft.
aptX Bluetooth:Yes and Active

Not to be confused, the Sennheiser HD-1 was previously known as the Sennheiser Momentum (Latter called the HD-1 after the Bluetooth issues were fixed) .

Both variants of headphones still sell together and interestingly choosing between them now is just like selecting a variant or a color of product.

The same way you will choose between a white or black color smartphone from a seller is the same way you choose between the HD-1 and the Sennheiser Momentum wireless headphones. Over to the review now;

Call them the Swiss army Knife of wireless headphones and you wont be wrong as they possess most of the features and quality to be a strong competitor in every category on this list.

One very good thing about these bluetooth headphones is the sound quality they produce.

If all you care about is sound quality, not minding looks or other things, then these are the perfect set for you. You also get aptX compatibility, which further makes the sound very smooth and soft.

The multi-function controls are easily accessed from the rim edge of the ear cups, which also house not one but several miniature mics – two for hands free calling (when paired with your smartphone) and a further four for the built in Noise Guide active noise-cancellation circuit.

Also, the HD1s gets an impressive 22 hours active performance (in Bluetooth/ Noise Guide mode) and can also be used as a wired passive pair (with an included locking 3.5mm jack)

What About Design and Comfort ability

The Design

First off, they look beautiful since they are built with premium leather and a strong metal frame plus a rustic look which makes it a great combination. The build doesn’t just make them good-looking – it also makes them nice and strong.

When we come to the side of comfort, these headphones can be worn for days without any burden or pressure to the head or to the ears. They also have these cool thumbscrews for headband adjustments on the sides of the housing.

The only reason these pair of headphones are not on the fore front of this list is the premium price tag it carries which puts them out of reach of all but the most committed of music lovers. Overall Sennheiser is known in the industry for their quality, and you can look at more Sennheiser reviews on our guide.

For those that can afford them, these are a no-barrier-holding wireless headphones with great sound and tough design that can last for years.

The battery life of this headphone is great at roughly 30 hours of constant playback.

If you’re looking for the best sound from a wireless headphone, this is it. In addition to a great and clear sounding audio, the large plush earpads do a great job at passively blocking outside noise.

Overall, if what you want is the best wireless headphones with great sounding audio, the Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless is one of the best headphone on the market right now.

They have a few high-end codecs to like AAC, aptX, and aptX HD. These are tough to beat.

Click to compare prices from Amazon US | Amazon UK, CA & AU | Prices are lower when the discount is applied (Use the button above).

Battery Life:8 Hours
Wireless Range:30+ Ft.
aptX Bluetooth:N/A
What we like:For the price of this bluetooth headphone under 100, its a great deal.

The Jabra Move wireless headphone is a household name in the wireless headphone industry that most of us probably do not know about.

But for those who have even in the slightest of way had a feel of it, you will quickly agree to make it one of your favorite gadgets in 2020 that does it works for a less amount. Great value for your bucks, really.

The Jabra Move Wireless is a basic pair of headphones with a great sound comparable to other expensive and high priced models out there, as well as its terrific Bluetooth signal.

While there’s an absence of aptX, the Bluetooth 4.0 never dropped out while we were using them. Not even for once, which indeed is Awesome.

One of the most amazing reason we love this headphone is the sound performance – it’s crisp and balanced.

Across bass, mids and highs, the ear cup speakers perform their job admirably, and the MOVE headphones’ sound is right up there with the best wireless ones despite their relatively low price.

It has a 29 Ohm speaker impedance and a speaker max input power of 80mW.

Depending on your use case, you might find their lack of noise insulation annoying, and constant use can tend to wear down the leather ear pads, but at this price point Jabra MOVE Wireless headphones are hard to beat.

In all, if in-ear headphones aren’t your style, your next best bet is the Jabra Move Wireless.

Although they may look like a budget buy, do not be deceived: this set of on ear Bluetooth wireless headphones is nothing but an all-around stellar product.

Wireless Range:30+ Ft.
aptX Bluetooth:N/A
Specs:Weight: 0.5 pounds | Frequency response: 17 – 23,000 Hz | Impedance: Active 490 Ω / Passive 46 Ω |
What we like:On/Off Control well implemented and excellent functionality, including a clever feature where you simply have to click the cups ninety degrees to turn them on, making them among the easiest headphones to just grab and go.
What we do not like:The touch controls are not 100% perfect for everyone.

The Sennheiser PXC 550 wireless headphones are a really great choice when it comes to sound quality.

No doubt, Sennheiser has proven their worth when it comes to innovation with this set of headphones. Sennheiser’s PXC 550 will quickly earn its place among your favorite tech gadgets in 2020.

Innovation and Power ups

The noise-cancelling headphones feel relatively light (they’re just eight ounces) without feeling cheap.

Instead of a power button, you can turn on the PXC 550 by twisting the right ear up from a flat position. You can swipe up/down on the earcup for adjusting volume and swiping left/right will change tracks.

When powered on, the PXC 550 automatically pairs to the last connected device via Bluetooth 4.2 and remembers two devices at a time. The 2.5mm proprietary input sits next to the microUSB power port.

Sennheiser claims up to 30 hours of battery life before needing to recharge. The PXC 550 excels when it comes to mids and trebles with clear dynamic sound that feels natural.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for bass (so heavy bass users will want to look elsewhere).

How about packaging?

The business-like design shines when it comes to folding up into a ball and placed back into their soft material case. The combination of noise cancellation, great sound and compact design make the 550 a top-notch choice for transport

  • Great Battery Life with active noise cancelling.

  • A bit pricey.

Although the touch controls might not be perfect for everyone, these really are one of the most innovative sets of headphones with great features as well.

If you are a fan of Sennheiser’s sound, but want noise-cancellation in addition to wireless operation, then the PXC 550 headphones might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Although they might be pricey, but these are really one of the very best wireless headphones 2020 has got in the market for you, perfect for traveling and virtually every other use…

8. Beats Solo3 Wireless On-Ear Headphones

Beats Solo3 Headphones

A well valued and popular wireless headphone for music lovers

If you have ever heard about Bluetooth headphones for music lovers and singers, chances are that you have heard about the Beats by Dre wireless headphones, regardless of whether you owned one then or not.

Beats by Dre (before acquisition by apple) was the name to die for back in those days.

Battery life: 40 Hours (Very impressive)
Wireless Range: 30 Ft
Noise-Canceling: No
aptX Bluetooth: No (High Bass)
What we like: An impressive battery life, Deep bass.
What we do not: Expensive for the value it offers.

No doubt, Beats by Dre was one of those headphones that pushed the wireless headphone industry to what we now call “Quality sound”.

I could still remember then, if you do not have a beat by Dre headphone, then you are using some cheap and quack headphone.

Both the beats solo3 and studio 3 bluetooth headphones are still an amazing set today.

The Solo3 uses Apple’s new W1 custom Bluetooth chip, which improves battery life drastically and makes pairing the headphone with Apple devices dead simple.

The Beats Solo3 Headphone

Beats solo3 and Beats studio3 wireless headphones – The best wireless headphones that have existed for long.

The Solo3 Wireless sounds very good for an on-ear Bluetooth headphone and will appeal to bass lovers who prefer a sound profile that accentuates the bass but manages to avoid being too boomy.

However, it doesn’t sound quite as clean as Beats’ more balanced Studio 3 Wireless over-ear model just below.

What About the Beats Studio3 Headphone

No doubt, Beats sound is well known for bass bloat, but on the Studio Wireless, that’s a thing of past.

When it comes to sound, the beats studio3 Bluetooth headphones are relatively well-balanced headphones.

There’s plenty of bass but it’s not overpowering or excess, just soft and really enjoyable.

In fact, the bass was arguably a little more articulate than the bass on Sony’s WH-1000XM2, which happens to be one of the best sounding Bluetooth headphones.

Bluetooth Pairing

Works with non-Apple Bluetooth audio devices. And was paired to a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus for this testing. But their special pairing feature is limited to Apple devices.

The Beats Solo 3 Wireless is a well-built wireless headphone that sounds good in both wireless and wired modes. (more on the wired mode though), and is relatively comfortable to wear for an on-ear headphone. Its battery life is top of the world, with an impressive (40 hours) of minimum play.

It also has a remote control built in to the right ear cup that’s easy to operate.

  • A Rock-solid wireless performance.
  • Entertaining sound, especially with modern electronic music.
  • A light and comfortable feel.

  • Not a perfect fit for handling acoustic music.
  • You won’t get the most out of these if you do not own an iOS device.

9. Beats Studio3 Wireless Over-Ear Headphones

Beats Studio3 Blue

The Beats Studio 3 Wireless Bluetooth headphones offers a more improved sound quality, an active noise canceling and quiet an impressive battery life from its predecessor in the same sturdy, simple and unique design.

Further more, Apple’s W1 chip makes pairing with Apple devices very simple and easy.

This headphone performs really well as a headset for making cell-phone calls and stacks up well against competing models from a sound standpoint.

  • Collapsible design with a comfortable and cozy pads.
  • Well balanced and satisfying bass.
  • Flawless operation with any of Apple devices.

  • Competitors in same price bracket somehow have more premium build. (but this is perfect for apple device owners).
  • Battery life and Bluetooth suffer when not connected to Apple devices.

10. Bowers and Wilkins PX

Bowers & Wilkins PX wireless headphone

Click to compare prices from Amazon US | Amazon UK, CA & AU | Prices are lower when discount is applied (Use the button above).

Battery Life:18 Hours
Wireless Range:30+ Ft.
aptX Bluetooth:Present and active
What we like:Charges via USB-C, both laptop and your regular Android charger can get them up.
What we do not like:A visible wire underneath the lower part of the headband

When it comes to the wireless headphones world, there are not many headphones out there that carry much emotion and excitement of music as compared to the Bowers & Wilkins PX.

What the B&W PX wireless Bluetooth headphones did was “take everything present in the P& & P5 models and then supercharge it to even be much more better”.

The Design

The design: As always, When it involves look, Bowers & Wilkins do not hold back a bit, using premium materials to design its products with a high level of fit and finish has always been the watch word here.

I’ve had two pairs of its headphones over the years, and even up till today, they both still look incredible. Its superb how the cable is threaded between the aluminum connecting the headband to the ear cups.

Sound and Audio

I have always known the Bowers & Wilkins to have a very rich audio sound.

APtx present and they include an active noise cancelling, so you can enjoy them in loud environments such as a subway train or while walking along a busy street. Sounds as sweet as (just think of anything cool and it is).

They have a very respectable battery life, even with the noise-canceling turned on.

Although, most headphones out there may tend to be more comfortable, while some offers superior noise cancellation, with most fold down into more compact cases, the Bowers & Wilkins PX trumps everything else with their combination of excellent sound and a premium gorgeous design.

If you really care about headphone builds, design and comfort ability, while enjoying premium sound, it’s hard to recommend any other pair over Bower & Wilkins PX Wireless headsets.

With wireless headphones, the option of choosing between in ear headphones (otherwise known as earphones), OR over ear headphones (generally regarded as headphone wireless) comes handy.

While the first are the best type of headphones for sport activities and media presentations, the other is great for listening to music and recording sessions.

While most people prefer to go for the best noise cancelling wireless headphones (to avoid distractions of course), others like it just simple and hence stick to the regular bluetooth stereo headsets and earbuds for fitness activities.

However, when it comes to having a “best buy wireless headphone”, small problems like: “what is the best wireless headphones to buy in 2020” , “what are the best Bluetooth headphones that fits my budget?” , “should I buy a Noise cancelling wireless bluetooth headphone?” and a whole number of others come to play.

Just to let you know, I did spend sleepless nights researching, testing and then ranking these wireless headphones devices, and even had to skip some bathroom sessions. **shhh..Dont tell anyone** Lol :-).

We have taken out time to show you some of the key things to look out for when shopping for a wireless Bluetooth headphone or headset.

Also, we have answered some frequently asked questions relating to wireless headphones, wireless earphones and bluetooth headsets as well.

QUICK NAVIGATION – for wireless headphones frequently asked questions and buying guide.

What are the benefits of a wireless headphone?

The most obvious reason to choose a wireless headphone is because they are convenient for any situation where you probably don’t want to deal with dangling cables and wires, especially at the gym.

Fast forward to today. Many phone manufacturers are beginning to kill the headphone jacks, giving more value to the wireless headsets.

It may then be interesting to know that the two tech giants (Apple and Google’s) flagship phones are now completely jack-free.

Wireless headphones today, have become a necessity to ensure compatibility with just about any new device.

Wireless Headphones VS Wired Headphones

Question: Should I buy a wireless headphone over a Wired headphone?

Answer: Choosing between a wireless or wired headset all comes down to preference. Generally, wired headphones sound much better than its wireless counterparts, but if portability and comfort is your number one concern, then the wireless headphones far outperform its wired counterparts.

Wireless no longer means poor sound, either. A major drawback to Wireless headphones is the issue of battery and the problems as well as some shortcomings associated with Bluetooth technology itself.

These days, Bluetooth audio sounds much better than it ever has.

Even though the stereo Bluetooth data signal is compressed, various headphone and earphone vendors have discovered ways of enhancing the signal to compensate for deficiencies in fidelity.

If all you care about is sound (heavy studio work, band and audiophiles) the best option for you is to stick to the wired headphones, but if you are a casual listening music type (everyday use, travelers or business type), obviously the best bet is to go wireless.

What is aptX?

The aptX audio codec (yes, it has no capital letter at the start) is a mode of wireless transfer using a smarter type of compression, which packs larger chunks of data into the signal, and transmits it faster.

It’s capable of what’s known as lossless audio, meaning that it is, in theory, able to transmit higher quality sound than standard Bluetooth.

What to Look Out for when buying a wireless headphone

Question: What do I need to consider before choosing a wireless Bluetooth headphone?

Answer: Here are some basic things to look out for before you buy a wireless Bluetooth headphone.

  • Battery Length, Durability and Battery Life.
  • Wireless Range.
  • Build, Comfortability and weight.
  • Budget.
  • Sound Isolation or Noise cancellation.
  • Headphones or Earphones.

Explained in Details

Battery Length, Durability and Battery Life: It would have been very great if the batteries lasts for the exact amount of hours stated by the manufacturer.

But that is not always the case. While most manufacturers test their battery using minimum use condition, it then becomes crucial to seek for the battery life when on a no restricted full time blast mode.

Overall, an ideal battery should last more than 4 Hours when on full mode (highest volume with all features and function enabled), and 8 Hours on average.

Wireless Range (W.Range): No too much talk here, an ideal wireless connection range from your audio device and your Bluetooth headphone should be no less than 20-Ft

Build, Comfort ability and Weight: Again, it all boils down to individual preference.

Comfort: Ideally, you will want something that fits comfortably in your ears for a specific period of time before it begins to get uncomfortable.

Packaging and carry: Also, you will probably want a headphone with a nice carry case or the fold-able technology for an easy carry on the go (when you are not using them).

Weight: You do not want to carry a load on your head all in the name of a headphone do you? No., ideally, you need something not so heavy (lightweight).

Budget: The budget however becomes a very crucial thing to consider. You do not want to throw away all of your hard earned money only to purchase a “beastly headphone” that sounds so great, will you?

It however becomes crucial to look for a wireless headphone within a specific price range (Like we have added the Best wireless headphones less than 50, 100, 150 and 200 respectively). Fear not, they surprisingly sound great too and even has an active noise-cancellation included.

Sound Isolation or Noise cancellation: If all you want is shut yourself completely outside the normal world, then this is a very crucial feature to consider. Again, if you are the travelling type like myself, a pair of wireless noise cancellation headphone will save you a whole lot of weird stuffs. The better the isolation, the better you hear the music and avoid unwanted noise. Although the more expensive models strike the perfect balance between isolation and comfort.

Headphones or Earphones. Lets explain this further.

Should I Choose Between a Wireless Headphone or Earphones?

If you aren’t primarily looking for a set of wireless earphones for the gym, conventional headphones can offer a very good listening experience.

Generally, you’ll get better sound from a full set of “cans” around your head than from buds in your ears.

Earphones (also known as earbuds, or in-ear headphones) offer a slightly different sound profile compared with conventional headphones , although they have improved quiet a great deal. In simple terms, earbuds are great for sporty activities (intentionally made with anti sweat, dirt and water resistance in mind).

On the other hand, if you intend to go for a conventional headphone, The option to choose between on-ear and over-ear headphones however becomes a need to know.

While On-ear headphones rest the ear cups against your ears (but don’t normally surround them), Over-ear headphones completely enclose your ears.

Over-ear headphones tends to block out outside noise and usually provide a more powerful, rich sound, as compared to on-ear headphones which are generally less bulky and distracting to wear.

Do not forget that excessive use of headphones may pose a health risk to the ears and other hearing aids.
